EMDR Therapy
Deep, somatic-based therapy to help get to the root of trauma and anxiety faster than traditional talk therapy.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, somatic-based therapy designed to help clients safely, and efficiently process trauma and other distressing experiences. EMDR is a great fit for most clients, especially those who are looking to experience a “breakthrough” or relief from past events.
Benefits of EMDR Therapy
Somatic-Based
It can be really hard to talk about distressing memories and events. EMDR allows you to practice mindfulness and process challenging memories and emotions in the body where they are stored. This also helps relieve clients of the challenge of verbalizing the painful details of their trauma, while still making room for deep processing.
Future-Oriented
Though EMDR helps clients process past traumatic memories and events, the main goal is to help you in the future. EMDR is designed to help rewire your brain to benefit you in future events that normally challenge, trigger, or upset you. This formula is designed to help you feel more rooted and more connected to the real you.
Semi-Structured
One common impact of trauma is the fear of uncertainty. EMDR offers a structured, paced experience to help you take the guesswork out of therapy. EMDR also begins with creating a safety-focused plan to ensure that you feel comfortable in the driver’s seat of your healing journey.
Evidence-Based
EMDR is a well-researched, evidence-based therapy that has been show to be an effective treatment for trauma and anxiety-based concerns. EMDR has been shown to help accelerate the helpful effects of therapy, be helpful for those from underrepresented backgrounds, and have longer lasting effects than talk therapy alone. EMDR for Attachment and Relational Trauma
EMDR is a helpful healing modality for those of us with attachment trauma. When our caregivers or loved ones harm us or fail to meet our emotional and basic needs, it can leave a wound that is hard to process with words alone.
Healing attachment trauma calls us to come home to our bodies. We must learn how to sit with, feel, and release deeply rooted emotions in our bodies, while learning to regulate, calm, and nurture our newly relieved bodies. EMDR helps create a safe, structured, and supportive environment to do just this.
I am an EMDR Provider who specializes in working with clients with attachment trauma.
I was drawn to EMDR because I want to help clients get to the root of their concerns and experience lasting healing in therapy. While talk therapy offers a great foundation for emotional work, EMDR provides a powerful path forward, especially for clients who are navigating attachment and relational trauma.
If you are hoping to try a new form of healing work to move you forward in a transformative way, I’m excited to talk about EMDR with you.
I was trained in EMDR in 2022 by the Institute of Creative Mindfulness by the expert consultant Lisa Hayes, LISW.
