Therapy for Body Image &
Body Dissatisfaction
Therapy for adult women to confront, unpack, and heal from body image and body dissatisfaction, in Atlanta and across Georgia online.
From disconnected, to rooted within.
You can’t shake that nagging feeling that something is wrong with your body and it needs to change. You’ve tried to be kind to yourself, or ignoring your body all together, but nothing quite sticks. Now, the way you feel about your body is getting in the way of taking pictures, trying on clothes, intimacy with your partner, or even showing up at all. The pain sets in when you realize that you’d rather hide than face your own body. Therapy for body image and body dissatisfaction is designed to help you finally clarify the source of your pain and repair a relationship with your body that creates freedom instead of control and fear.

What Body Image Therapy Looks Like
-

Get to the root.
Discover the source of why you see your body as wrong and needing to be controlled, changed, or even harmed. Build healthy skepticism for how you learned to treat yourself.
-

Cultivate inner safety.
Your deeper work must be supported by inner safety. Together, we’ll build self-care, self-soothing, and nervous system regulation skills to help hold you as we journey within.
-

Repair Your Self-Image
Everyone deserves to see themselves through fresh eyes. Through intentional work, we’ll release messages of control, obsession, and disdain, making room for compassion and care.
-

Live Your Healing.
The goal is to help you recreate a relationship with your body that is rooted in body care, one that moves you towards aligned behaviors beyond the restrictions of body loathing.
“Concepts like self-acceptance and body neutrality are not without value. When you have spent your entire life at war with your body, these models offer a truce. But you can have more than a cease-fire. You can have radical self-love because you are already radical self-love.”

Body dissatisfaction is a negative, deficit-oriented view of our bodies as compared to the perceived*, ideal body. Organizations such as the National Eating Disorder Association has helpful foundational information on Body Image issues. A guiding text that I recommend clients read includes: The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love.

Body Image therapy might be right for you if you struggle with how you feel about your body and it interferes with your life. Having a strong urge to hide, cover yourself up, avoid situations where you fear negative perception, or simply feeling bad about yourself are signs that therapy could be helpful for you.

I use a trauma-informed, intersectional approach grounded in relational frameworks. This means: I take the time to see you first as a whole person, make room for how your life events and identities shape your experience, and then partner with you to unlearn toxic messaging around your body and appearance. I use a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach and strongly practice from a fat-affirming lens.
